Ibokon had never be known in the history of Benin Kingdom as a distinct village but a quarter in Ugbineh village, Ovia North East Local Government Council Area, Edo state.
Odionwere (village/district Head) of Ugbineh, Pa. John Osayande in an interview with our reporter in Benin, made the clarification in reaction to recent declaration by a group of persons that Ibokon is a distinct village from Ugbineh and that they are natives.
According to him, these persons are mischief makers stirring up unecessary controversy for selfish interest because the new administrative arrangement of Ugbineh no longer favours them as members of the disbanded notorious Community Development Association (CDA).
Still dwelling in the inglorious past of C.D.A activities, they feel they should continue to be taking decisions on behalf of Ugbineh village.
But in line with the new order of the Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare II, and the Edo State Government which banned C.D.A and associated activities, what they crave is not possible hence their anger and have come up with the controversy, he explained.
"They are all from Ugbineh here, some of them their fathers were sometime Odionwere here in this village. Ugbineh has boundary with Urhuokhokho village and not Ibokon as the mischief makers wrongly want people to believe.
"Ask them to tell you the names of past Odionwere in Ibokon if really it had been a village that has existed over the years; their fathers were ones Odionwere of Ugbineh. These group of perons creating this crisis are sons of former Odionwere trying to bend things for personal interest."
Buttressing his explaination, he asserts that the tomb of captain Philip, primary and secondary schools established in 1945, and 1980 respectively, are some historical and Government presence in Ugbineh village which Ibokon is part of.
"In this village we have seven quarters which Ibokon is just one of them and we all use one Oguedion (spiritual sanctuary of the ancestors and meeting place).
Odionwere Osayande denied the allegation by the group that he sent thugs to attack them on their to the village.
He consequently, called on members of the public to disregard the claim/declaration of the group as it is illegal and misleading.
