Bendel Insurance football Club of Benin, week end laboured to a 1-0 victory against Gateway FC to earn a deserved three points, to maintain lead in NNL Group B standing with 17 points.
Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi struck for the host in the 82nd minute against the visiting Gateway to send the anxious home fans into jubilation.
Insurance top Striker Junior Osaghae had earlier wasted a penalty opportunity after a barren first half to raise tension in the game in which players were saturated by the drizzling rain.
It was undoubtedly a revenge mission for the Insurers as reply for their midweek defeat to the Gateway at Abeokuta when they lost 2-1.
In a post match interview, the chief coach of the Victorious Insurance, Baldwin Bazuaye expressed delight, saying that victory is sweet and praised his boys efforts.
He said that he looked forward to their next match away to Abia comet, hoping for away win to make his side enjoy a comfortable lead.
Also speaking the commissioner for communications and orientation Rt Hon Paul Ohonbamu commended Insurance players for their determination and urged them to work harder to enable them win some away matches to ensure qualification for promotion to the elite division which is the target of the club management and government. He reassured of the state government commitment to investing in the growth and development of the club.
