IPC calls for the release of abducted Journalists

The International Press Centre Lagos-Nigeria has call for the release of two journalists, Mr. Jerry Jojo- Gana and Mr. Uboh who were abducted at about 10p.m on Saturday October 20, 2018, while returning from work in Nasarawa State.


According to Report from Vanguard Newspaper, “Police in Nasarawa State have confirmed the abduction of staff of the state Broadcasting Service, NBS, Keffi office, and his friend by unknown gunmen.”


Report had it that, the Police began investigation and found the Honda CRV belonging to one of the victims with an iPad abandoned by the road around Dadin-Kowa in Keffi town.


In a statement signed by Melody Akinjiyan, IPC, Program Officer/Safety Desk Officer IPC. The IPC director Mr Lanre Arogundade called on the security agencies to intensify investigations concerning the abducted journalists, he noted that the case, if not quickly resolved could aggravate safety concerns for journalists even as the general elections draw near.


"The spate of insecurity in the country is a big concern to all and it is rather worrisome, when journalists and media practitioners now become targets.”


“We implore the security agencies to put all hands on deck to quickly secure the release of the concerned journalists.”
