A commercial motorcycle operator has bagged a fourteen-year jail term with hard labour for defiling and impregnating his 13-year-old daughter.
The Evbuoriaria Magistrate Court on Friday, October 5, 2018, sentenced a commercial motorcycle operator, Friday Moses to 14 years in prison for forcefully having unlawful carnal knowledge with his own daughter thereby impregnated the minor.
The convict, Friday Moses, 42-year-old man has been having unlawful carnal knowledge of his biological daughter since she lost her mother five years ago.
The family court magistrate, who did not give the convict an option to pay a fine, but sentenced him with hard labour stated that the sentence will serve as a lesson to the convict as well as deterrent to others who defile children and those who might intend to engage in such act in the future.
According to Ehis Agugu, child protection officer of the state Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Development, the victim, a primary six pupil, who is five months and two weeks pregnant for her father, is the first child of the convict's three children and she is presently in the protective custody of the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for adequate care.
Edo women affairs ministry has been at the forefront of the fight to end violence against children and with the collaborative efforts of Child Protection Network (CPN), the ministry played active role in the arrest and prosecution of the culprit and others.
Meanwhile, two others, Lambert Ighodaro was slammed a fourteen-year jail term and Benjamin Uzoma Nwachukwu who was chased out of the seminary for his perverse lifestyle equally bagged a twenty-year jail term.
Also a 65-year-old Matthew Omokhafe, 31-year-old Pastor Matthew Braimoh, 33-year-old Corporal Michael Eriarebhe and others remanded in prison for allegedly defiling children of aged 15 years.
