Following the alleged invasion and attack on the elders and people of Ubiaza community, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, Edo State by the people of Obaretin community, the elders and indigenes of the community, has called on the State Government, Benin monarch and other relevant authorities to come to their rescue before the entire community will go into extinction.
According to information emanating from the community, elders and the people of Ubiaza have been attacked by the people of Obaretin community, property worth millions of naira including cars have been destroyed while many women were robbed during the attack by the heavily armed men.
Sources also disclosed that trouble started when the people of Obaretin community started encroaching on their land illegally after selling all their lands and Ubiaza community decided to take them to court for justice after which they started attacking them with armed men.
One of the affected victims princess Ehimwenma narrated her ordeal said she was in the market on that faithful day when she got a call that the people of Obaretin community have invaded their community with armed men shooting and robbing people including my house some of my tenants were lucky not to sustain injury.
Princess Ehimwenma said the people of Obaretin and Ubiaza community have lived together for so many years without quarrel or dispute until the very moment they started encroaching on their land illegally and decided to take them to state high court in Benin for justice. She added that even as the matter proceed in court the indigene of the two communities still share greetings and rob minds together and where planning of settled out of court.
She called on the government, Benin monarch and other relevant authorities to come to their rescue.
Also speaking, the Okaevbo of Ubiaza community said it was on the 18th of August 2018, a group of armed men came from Obaretin to attack us and women destroyed our houses and our cars burned down our town hall with sophisticated weapon but unfortunately for them one little boy that was hiding somewhere recorded them with a video handset.
He said with the help of the video we were able to arrest them, but after 3 months in detention they were released and within the period the entire community where at peace including neighboring communities.
According to him, immediately they where release on the 28th of October 2018, they came shooting in our community we are begging the relevant authorities to come and help us.
Commenting on the attacks, an elder in the community PA Moses igbineweka, alleged the people of Obaretin community of encroaching on their land illegally after selling all their own lands.
"I was born here all my brothers and sisters were born here Ubiaza community is an ancient village and if we're to look back it was about 12AD since Ubiaza has been here, Obaretin and Ubiaza has never had any issues before now it's all because of land's selling of today and they have finished selling their lands".
"Today they are coming to tell us our land belong to them the land our for fathers farmed and live for us we are calling on the state governor Godwin Oboseki and other relevant authorities to help us resist the people of Obaretin community".
Responding on the alleged attack on behalf of Obaretin community and other accused persons Mr Ogbe Ogieva, former youth secretary Obaretin community before the abolition of community Development Association CDA, debunked the allegations against him and the people of Obaretin community that he has no business with anything of such.
In his words, I am an ordinary Obaretin community indigene for now I know nothing about the attack they are the one attacking us.
