The Auchi Area Office of the Benin Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA) has been commissioned.
Commissioning the area office, Alhaji Ali Olaganju Olanusi, chairman of the authoritys' board of directors, said the area office will serve the water need of the locals and would contribute to the actualization of the priorities of the present Federal Government.
He stressed that, as one of the agencies saddled with the responsibility to make this a reality; the new area office will play a major role in the management of the nation’s water and land assets in terms of provision of water facilities and training of farmers in new farming techniques in both crops and animal husbandry as well as involvement in full scale production of vegetables for the local markets.
According to him, the area office will in the course of its activities create employment and boost the economy of the area through effective engagement of the people particularly the youths.
" I want to commend the Otaru of Auchi, HRH Alhaji Aliru Momoh, Ikelebe III, for graciously donating parcels of land for farming and building of a permanent structure for the Area Office, just as he thanked the board, management and staff of the agency who he said have been working assiduously to birth the vision of the President Muhamadu Buhari administration’s determination to paint a new socio-economic landscape for the benefit of all irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliation"
Engr. Saliu Ahmed Osifuemhe, Managing Director of BORBDA said with the presence of the area office, the agency becomes strategically positioned to promote national food security through the entrenchment of agriculture as an alternative revenue source beyond oil.
He said the office will support the provision of portable water for domestic uses and irrigation for all year round agricultural production and will also help in providing rural infrastructure such as roads and associated facilities.
The managing director averred that Edo State which plays host to the headquarters of BORBDA, has not had the privilege of having an Area Office until now despite the presence of such sate offices in Ekiti, Ondo and Delta states for several years back hence the idea to establish one in the state to bring the authority’s impact closer to the people of the state.
In his goodwill message the Otaru of Auchi, Ikelebe III, thanked the federal agency for the choice of Auchi town as location for the Area Office, assuring however of his determination to welcome any agencies or companies bringing development to his kingdom.
