Sexual assault: My suspension is political, an attempt to blackmail me...Varsity Don

By Timothy Omobude

The embattled lecturer of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma Edo state, Prof. Monday Igbafen says its suspension is gear towards blackmailing his personality in the university academic system.

He said the move is an attempt by the university authority to silent him totally owning to the fact that he is not ready to toe the line of the VC and Co.

Speaking to Journalist in Benin city the state capital, the AAU chapter chairman said the school is only trying to wake up a dead issue that has been laid rest over seven years ago.

According to him ' the suspension is a total blackmail, they are bringing back the issue of 2011, even when he was not the VC, although he was part of those people that engineered the who set up. They thought I was going to be the ASSU Chairman, when they saw that it didn't happened, they forgot the issue.

" I was just a lecturer one then, I was quarried which I answered stating clearly my innocent, this issue is politically motivated, we were two persons involved, they only warned the other guy and made him head of department.

Prof. Igbafen noted that, the VC is acting on a written script upon discovery the union has taking some firm position of issues bordering on his maladministration. He said the VC want to want to make it a personal enclave where he can takeover everything in the university so that there will be no voice. The whole scenario is purely union affair.

" what is going on in the system in an attempt to cow and destroy the university Prof. Igbafen added.

Reacting to the claim, spokesman for AAU, Mr Edward Aihevba said Prof. Igbafen should go and face the Staff Disciplinary Committee (SDC) where he would have enough time to explain himself concerning what really happened.

He said the issue is far from the claims of the ASSU chairman, saying that it was the family of the girl (namewithheld) in question that is pushing for the case.

Authorities of the University had on Wednesday issued a statement to the press on the suspension of the ASSU chapter chairman over alleged sexual assault.
