Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon. Com. Phillip Shaibu has described women Journalists as partners with government in efforts to bring development to the people of Nigeria.
Comrade Shaibu made the remark recently while playing host to executives and members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Edo State Chapter, during their courtesy visit to the deputy Gov.
He said one of the key role of Journalist which is agenda setting will always direct attention of the government to areas of social importance and public good, which will affect the people positively.
He encouraged journalists to continue to engage government constructively by highlighting areas that require attention and also help to bring feedback from the people to enable those in authority keep abreast with happenings and feelings from the people about government activities that bothers on policies and programmes.
"I holds journalists in high esteem because of the vital role they play in reporting government activities which otherwise the public may not be aware about. You as women journalists should join the state government in promoting a positive image, especially now in the area of human trafficking and irregular migration which the state has received international recognition for, the women are worst in items of the outcomes of this irregular migration, human trafficking and modern day slavery, which we must continue to discourage, he added.
He assured them of support whenever he is called upon no mater what is involved.
Earlier, the Chairperson of NAWOJ in Edo State, Ms Flora Bossey said the visit was to share in the joy of the yultied with him and to express the readiness of the Association to work with the present administration particularly in sectors that affect women, youths and Children.
