In a bid to cushion the negative effect of the covid-19 pandemic which led to the lockdown on both economic and social activities, a non governmental organisation, Edo Youth development EYD, has distributed relief materials worth millions of naira to orphanage homes in Oredo, Ikpoba-okha and Uhunmwonde local government areas in Edo state.
The relief materials includes, groundnut oil, rice, beans, Noddles, children pampers, onion, hypo disinfectant, detergent and others was donated courtesy of the convener of the NGO Mr Etin Odiase who is a Lagos business man.
Presenting the items to Tender heath orphanage and charity home international, Mr Odiase who was represented by Mrs Osamede Iyike said the gesture to cushion the hardship caused by novel corona virus outbreak currently ravaging the world globally and to give the orphans sense of belongings in the scheme of things.
According to him, the hardship experience by people today is becoming unbearable especially as it concerns the vulnerable, if people who work finds it difficult to feed daily, what happens to these orphans who lived by donations such as this. I don't want them to fill neglected or abandoned. He thanks EYD for making it possible to feed Edo people.
'In Benin city, since the outbreak of the pandemic we have done a lot, our target is to reach out to over one thousand Edo people with quality food items of various kinds, outside donations to these orphanage home. I could have attracted this EYD gesture to other place but charity they say begins at home. We are extending the donations to Owan, Uhunmwonde and Orhionmwon.
'In Oredo wards 7, we also shared items like this to vulnerable people across the ward. People around first upstairs got the items as well. Thanks to my wife who have been very supportive, just like the saying, behind every successful man, there is a woman.
'Our next point of call is to distribute in Urhonigbe town, and some other communities in Orhionmwon south.
Receiving the items at Tender heath orphanage, the founder, Mrs Margret Ize-Iyamu thanked the donor while the children also prayed for EYD and convener Mr Odiase success and advancement in life.
While appreciating the donor EYD, the administrator, Oronsaye maternity and Orphanage home, Mr Patrick Oronsaye thanks convener Mr Odiase and his wife for their gesture.
'You guys have done us well, you know these children can not pay you back. Prior to covid-19 Nigeria was already in a 'depression' but for someone to remember anyone at this moment, it shows that the individual is an epitome of love and care. I'm pleasantly surprise he added.
