A Former member of the Federal House of Representative Hon Ifaluyi-Isibor has called on government at all levels to reward journalists just like they are currently rewarding health workers amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hon Isibor who represented Ikpoba-Okha and Egor Federal constituencies said journalists deserve commendation for constraining their today for others to gave a future, and that without the Press the health workers can not even know what is prevailing in the system in the current struggle to surmount the Corona pandemic.Why Government should also reward Journalists like the health workers - Hon Isibor.
According to Hon Isibor, 'the purpose of information is to save or keep the people abreast with the latest trend and for that information to get to the people you need the journalists.
The important roles played by journalists in our society can not be compared to any other. Outside water which people say is the most important thing in life, I will say it is the journalists that are much more important, one may need the water but you need the news to direct you on how and where to get the water.
'News is life, after that, all other word or phrase will follow. When the civil war was raging, the soldiers said, we sacrifice our today for your tomorrow; same thing that journalists are doing today; please don't give up as Journalists, if you do, there will be no hope.
'I'm calling on government at all levels to also consider Journalists and treat them with courtesy. They are one who keeps updating us on what and how to do what is expected of us to stay alive. Please I beg you my Pressmen, stay alive to save us, especially at this trying time'
'Journalists come before any other thing, now look at the corona virus pandemic, rather than praising the health workers alone, we should also praise the man who blows the whistle which are the pressmen, now half of the world would have been gone, " he added.
