Sport Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, has congratulated Godwin Obaseki and Rt. Hon Comr Philip Shaibu over their reelection as governor and deputy at the September 19, 2020 poll.
SWAN, Edo state chapter in a congratulation message to the governor and his deputy signed by, the chairman, Moses Idahosa and secretary, Timothy Omobude made available to newsmen in Benin city, the state capital said the governor haven done well for the past three of his first tenure, deserves another four to consolidate on what is on ground.
According to the letter; the governor outstanding services to the people in the areas of infrastructure, agriculture, Jobs creation, education reforms through the EdoBEST program and sports were the bedrock of re-electing the him for second term.
'Your administration's prompt payment of salaries as at when due, pension and gratuities in the past three years and the unwavering effort in bringing back Edo state to its days of leading the nation in all sporting activities and has not gone unnoticed by the people.
'For we as sports writers, we have benefited so much, if not for covid-19 by now the state would have been done hosting the 36 state and the FCT via national sports festival, one can as well see what is happening at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, it has change completely.
'We have no doublt that this election was actually the aspirations of Edo people being adjudged free, fair and credible.
'As the fourth estate of the realm and Watch Dog of the Society, although heavy in sports reportage we are very much ready in working with his excellency on programs that will propagate Edo to the world to curry development.
The chapter urged the governor to be magnanimous in victory for the benefits of all Edo people irrespective of political party affiliation and other connections.
'Your excellency, we know that preparations are seriously ongoing as it concerns the national sports festival. It is our believe that SWAN especially Edo chapter will play a major role.
