Edo: {Interview} Why APC don't have candidate - Roy

Factsreportersng

Roy Osariemen is a former Publicity Secretary of APC, Orhionmwon LGA, Presently the Chief Press Secretary to the Council Chairman, Hon. Syvester Okoro. He speaks with Factsreportersng on the need, reason why Gov Obaseki should be re-elected come September 19.

Excerpts

How well do you know Obaseki?

I know Obaseki as a courageous, firm and a God sent to Edo at a critical time when we need a leader who passionately desire the best for the state.

Why not APC rather PDP at this material time?

Political party serves as a vehicle to drive home governance, saddled with responsibility of piloting the affairs of governance much more than the party, I can’t sacrifice performance on the alter of party’s loyalty. APC made the greatest political mistake by denying a man like Obaseki a return ticket, the era of one person deciding the fates of the entire state is gone and gone for good, forever.

Are you very concern about Edo development, if yes how do you mean?

I'm very much concern, if not I shouldn’t have even considered sticking with the incumbent Governor for his second term ambition. Governor Obaseki developmental hands have touched virtually all sectors of human endeavors. Infrastructural development he did marvelously well, in human capital development, he made a laudable marks, in institutional reforms he surpassed all. Obaseki tenure has witnessed so much peace and tranquility. Teachers are happy, civil servants and pensioners salaries/gratuities are paid as at when due, eradication of touts/Agberos, including the disbandment of the inglorious community development association and so many others visible positive impacts.

How wide is PDP spread in your ward (Ugu) and your LGA?

PDP membership spread cut across the 13 communities in Ugu Ward, Ugu is PDP strong base, even when we were in APC as a ruling party, we lost most of the elections to the PDP. In 2016 gubernatorial election, APC won only 3 units out of 26 units in Ugu Ward, we lost the ward with a wide margin to the PDP. In 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections we also lost to PDP, we only won the House of Assembly election because of the love and the resolve to support the Governor.

You were the Publicity Secretary of the APC, why leaving such position for ordinary membership position of the opposition party?

First, I’ll have to appreciate my leader and a great man, somebody I respect and regard so much but it’s unfortunate we are in opposite sides as regards the choice of September 19th gubernatorial election, Rt. Hon. Patrick Aisowieren. He nominated me for the position (Publicity Secretary ) but my conscience first before any privileged party position. I rather remain as an ordinary member to enjoy good governance than living in regrets as executive member.

What has Gov Obaseki done different from other successive Governors?

Obaseki has given human face to governance, Obaseki made Edo to understand that, truly the People welfare matter more. When other states are finding it difficult to pay worker’s salaries, Obaseki is paying as at when due while infrastructural development takes pivotal role on his scale of preference.

You have refuse to back out from Obaseki, looking at your movement and programms in support of Obaseki, Who is bankrolling you?

Laughing...no one is bankrolling me, the love I have for Obaseki as a man and the constant believe that he will leave our dear Edo state better than he met it, is the motivational drive.

Quickly, in clare term, can you say what the governor has done in your LGA?

Governor Obaseki has projects across the 12 wards in Orhionmwon, ranging from the construction/renovation of public schools, health centers, skill acquisition centers, water projects, roads, human capital development and other projects.

Will the coming of Obaseki to PDP revive the party in Edo?

PDP was never dead in Edo, so talking about reviving is out of place. Don’t forget PDP won 2 senatorial seats in 2019 National Assembly election, won all House of Representatives seats in Edo central and 2 out the 4 seats in Edo South, so Edo State is a PDP stronghold.

As grass rooter, your projection come September 19th?

September 19th is a day in electoral history that Edo people across party divides are going to the poll to re-elect a general acceptable candidate. Election, that both major parties are gunning for same candidate.

Obaseki is a consensus candidate

The legally recognized Edo state party chairman said APC don’t have candidate in September 19th gubernatorial election, in other words, we re giving our support to Governor Obaseki.

Let's meet you who are you and what do you do for a living?

My name is Roy Osariemen, from Ologbo’Nugu in Ugu Ward of Orhionmwon LGA, a livestock’s Farmer, Orhionmwon Publicity Secretary of APC and CPS to the  Honourable chairman, orhionmwon Council, Hon.
