...family planning should be encourage - expert

A nursing mother, Mrs Obasohan Precious  has said she prefer Implant method of family planning ahead of other methods. Just as she said been victim of other methods which failed her before now.

Precious is of the opinion that husband should be bold enough to encourage their wife in family planing considering the present situation as a nation. "I'm going for the implant, I don't want to bother myself for the next two to three years.

According to her; as for me, I came with my husband but have not be attended to, although, they have taken my information, I'm waiting for my turn. My husband is in support of this and he is in support.

At the Oko PHC, along airport road, the Chief Nursing Officer, Mrs Omorere Adesuwa stated that it has been smooth sailing for family.planning and LPAY services.

While playing host to members of Media Advocacy Group, Benin who paid a working visit to the facility she said, as personnel in the PHC, they educate both married and active sex youths on the need for family planning.

"When mothers come for post-natal care. We preach the importance of child spacing even when husbands come with their wives.

On the sexually active youths, Omorere said they do advise them to abstain from sexual intercourse whenever they have the opportunity to interface with them, adding that when they insist or cannot do without sex they advised them to go for any of the various planning methods, injectable, oral pills, implants, etc. Condoms are regular because of its dual purpose as a planning method as well as its effective role in prevention of STDs.”

“One NGO, Niger Girls, has been helpful. Its primary focus is targeting sexually active girls aged 15-24 around the community and advocating for safe sex. They make referrals and we take it up from there.

"Our girls are vulnerable because of material things, they fall for Okada and Keke Rider and everyone who engage in daily jobs. Family planning should be encouraged.

“Abortion is not yet legalized in our country, as such, we do not encourage it here. Abortion is risky, it is a blind procedure, and it could become septic if not properly done. While we don’t procure abortion here, we however administer Post Abortion Care (PAC) when we get the referrals. Poverty and the crave for modern communication gadgets and other effemeral goods are culprits in the rate of sexual activity among youths. We all have a role to play in mitigating this development she added.
