Re- educating Africans on the Risk and Dangers of Unplanned Journey Abroad (RARDUJA) International, a non-governmental organization in collaboration with National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has called on government and stakeholders in Benin, the State capital to put more effort in a bid to end illegal migration.

The call for sustained campaign against illegal migration abroad was part of the two day sensitization and awareness campaign for secondary school students in the state.

This follows the continued illegal migration of Nigerian abroad especially Europe and America inspite of efforts by the government and stakeholders to end the trend.

The event held at Edokpolor Grammar School, and Niger College respectively on Monday, and Tuesday.

According to Hon. Eddy Duru, founder and President, RARDUJA, who lectured the students on the dangers involved in illegal migration contrary to the deceptive stories and pictures painted by traffickers.

'In 2016 alone, 602,000 illegally travelled through the desert to Europe and 27,000 died according to United Nations report, he quoted'

'Though there is nothing wrong travelling abroad but it must be planned, legal and one must be adequately equipped to be able to survive and make it' Hon Duru advised.

For the videos watched, all the stories by victims of illegal migrants were pathetic, and heart wrenching, as they were the same; ignorance which led to tears, sorrow and regret. Hence, more impactful campaign, effort has been made to include illegal migration, and human trafficking in school curriculum at all level.

Calling for sustained campaign against the scourge by government and stakeholders, Duru said; "We have been here since 1999 when the first seminar was done and the organisation has never looked back."

On his part, Benin Zonal Commander of NAPTIP, Barr. Nduka Nwanwenne, spoke in the same vein.

NAPTIP in collaboration with RARDUJA in educating Africans about the dangers of unplanned journey abroad, will no doubt help in addressing issues of human trafficking, Nwanwenne said.

He called for more collaboration from stakeholders in the campaign against human trafficking to reducing the menace to the barest minimum.

'Hon. Duru is now the Chief ambassador of NAPTIP in Nigeria as regards issues of human trafficking hence, the agency will always render its support to RARDUJA, Nwanwenne said.

But for the sensitization and awareness campaign like the one by RARDUJA in collaborration with other stakeholders, the challenge of human trafficking would have been worst, he said.

He gave the hot line of NAPTIP: 09061645732 appealing that the agency should immediately be alerted in case any human trafficking is noticed.

Also, the event was supported by the Germany Ministry of Foreign Affairs the organizers disclosed.
