As part of effort to contain the spread of fake news, the Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ have warned, the director of communication and media to Pastor Osagie Ize- Iyamu, campaign organisation. Mr John Mayaki.
Chairman to NUJ, Edo State council, Sir Roland Osakue said it became necessary to caution John Mayaki after the flippant report credicted to him on social media, following the visit of the deputy governor of Edo State, Comr Philip Shaibu to ITV on Friday May, were he claimed that management and staff of Indepenednt television, ITV and Radio were nursing fears of a possible spread of the coronavirus disease during two of their lives programm both on television and radio.
According to Sir Osakue, 'we have received a lot of phone call concerning one Mr John Mayaki who cast asppertion on our team, an injury to one is an injury to all. ITV is one of the chapels that form Edo NUJ as state council.
'John Mayaki is tediuos garrulous, he is not a medical doctor and as such he should be totally ignore, is a mere asppertion that lacks merit and remain fleppant.The media workers in ITV have always play safe.
'We remain independent as members of the fourth estate of the realm, he was one of us, his principal could not have sent him such message. What he reported against our members in ITV have affected us negatively.
Sir Osakue said as collegues, the NUJ will called former interim chief press zssecretary to Gov Godwin Obaseki to order and also for him to tender unreserved apology to NUJ.
Earlier, the management of Independent television in a pres release signed by the General Manager, Senior Elder Ogbeide Uwumwonse described Mr Mayaki allegation and unnecessary alarm as frivolous, unfounded and baseless but one orchestrated by mischief makers to cause disaffection among staff of the noble media house and also to cause acrimony between ITV/Radio and Edo State Government.
