In a bid to cushion the negative effect of the covid-19 pandemic which led to the lockdown on both economic and social activities, a non governmental organisation, Edo Youth development initiative, have distributed relief materials worth millions of naira to over five orphanage homes in Oredo, Ikpoba-okha and Uhunmwonde local government areas in Edo state.
The relief materials includes, groundnut oil, rice, beans, Noddles, children pampers, onion, hypo disinfectant, detergent and others was attracted by a Lagos based businessman and Gov Godwin Obaseki strong supporter in getting a second term ticket in Edo state, Mr Etin Odiase.
Presenting the items to the orphans at Tender heath orphanage and charity home international, Mr Odiase who was represented by Mrs Osamede Iyike said the gesture to cushion the hardship caused by corona virus outbreak currently ravaging the world globally was to complement the effort of the state government led by Gov Obaseki and to give the orphans sense of belongings.
According to him, the hardship experience by people today is becoming unbearable especially as it concerns the vulnerable, if people who work finds it difficult to feed daily, what happens to these orphans who lived by donations such as this. I don't want them to fill neglected or abandoned.
'In Benin city, since the outbreak of the pandemic we have done a lot, our target is to reach out to one thousand Edo people with quality food items of various kinds, outside donations to these orphanage home. I could have attracted this to other place but charity they say begins at home. We are extending the donations to Owan, Uhunmwonde and Orhionmwon.
Receiving the items at Tender heath orphanage, the founder, Mrs Margret Ize-Iyamu thanked the donor while the children also prayed for success and advancement in all endeavors of Mr Etin Odiase.
While appreciating the donor, the administrator, Oronsaye maternity and Orphanage home, Mr Patrick Oronsaye thanks Mr Odiase and his wife for their gesture.
'You guys have done us well, you know these children can not pay you back. Prior to covid-19 Nigeria was already in a 'depression' but for someone to remember anyone at this moment, it shows that the individual is an epitome of love and care. I'm pleasantly surprise he added.
