Edo Election: See What Civil Society Want

As the governorship election bill for Saturday 19 this month draws closer, a right group, Edo civil society organisation, EDOCSO, has urge electorates across the 18 local government areas of the state to come out massively and vote for candidate of their choice without any inducement.


During a rally in Benin city the state capital EDOCSO with various placards with inscriptions, 'don't sell your vote' 'play the Politics, stop the violence' 'your vote is your voice' said it was necessary so that the electorates should be educated on what is expected of them.


Speaking during the rally, the coordinator general, Leftist Agho Omobude, who was represented by his deputy, Leftist Annie Iroro said;  It became incumbent on them to continue to discourage voters from all forms of electoral slavery, violence and vote trading during electoral process with focus on the  forthcoming governorship election in Edo.


'Want voters in the state to come out to exercise their civic right not to sell it. It has been a culture for EDOCSO, we come out every election to talk to the people about a violence free election.



'This election is not war. Everyone should come out and vote. It is our election, Edo is for all of us.


Also, Public Relations Officer of the group, leftist Osaze Edigin urged electorates not to be intimidated by recent political uphival, noting that their votes remains their power.


On the influence of the present global pandemic said, though the pandemic has affected our economy as a nation but is not an excuse for anyone to sell his or her vote.


'Voters should go out with their face masks and Permanent Voters Card (PVC) on election day, in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guideline for the conduct for conducting election this period Edigin added.
